The upper Lazio's region including part of Viterbo and Rome Provinces is named "Tuscia", the term derives from the Latin plural tusci of tuscus/etruscus; the Tuscia is therefore the Etruscan civilization cradle. In these lands landscape is shaped by the forms of an ancient and very extensive volcanic activity, now extinguished: volcanic mountains, caldera lakes, thermal areas, plateaus built by the tufa and engraved by watercourses in countless canyons, or gorges. The plains, where today a flourishing and industrialized agriculture occures, alternate with the steep and wild woody gorges slopes, with tufa vertical cliffs, riddled everywhere by the chisel of the Etruscan civilization first, Roman and medieval later: caves, tombs, shelters, houses and rocky sanctuaries are found everywhere, witnesses of a troglodyte culture from which we have drawn our survival rules up to "yesterday". A hypogeal world complementary to that, external and luminous, of the beautiful tufa villages, perched on the edge of the gorges ravines. A land, the Tuscia, full of mystery and suggestion.
