The area of the lower Nera valley from antiquity was a very important hub for river traffic, so much that it is believed that it was used by the Romans as a strategic naval construction site,
in fact, near the small medieval village of Stifone, a riviera medieval hamlet localted just on Nera's banks, there is a ruined site that is thought to have been an ancient Roman shipyard. In this trip we will verify the abundance of water in Stifone, necessary to conceive such an ancient use of this site. Stifone, infact, is famous for its numerous and rich karst springs flowing out from the mountain's womb: crystal clear waters, rich in minerals, of an incredible almost fairy-tale cobalt blue color. This abundance has led to the flourishing of the river water exploitation ancient culture, for agricultural and industrial purposes and to its related landscape. We will enjoy this nature and culture spectacle, inserted in the rural context of the countryside around, a still intact and beautiful landscape.
