In this trip we’r gonna see and learn something about the "sinkholes", the most spectacular Sabine karst forms: huge chasms, generated by the collapse of karst cavities roof.
In the case of the medieval village of Catino these forms have been exploited by man as settlement and natural defense spots, in the case of the "Revotano" in Roccantica, they have penetrated into the popular legend, as scary black holes in the middle of a "sea" of woods. The landscape of these forests, which, if seen from above or from outside can seem monotonous, if explored from the inside, will reveal many hidden details: charcoal pitches and crumbling ancient mills, revealing forest landscapes peasant culture and the St. Leonard Hermitage/cave, where man's homage to the majesty and grandeur of nature was celebrated in religious rituals since ancient times.
